New mailing list not listed in the Contacts sidebar

My newly-added mailing list is visible in Address Book but isn't listed in the Contacts sidebar (old ones are OK) - so I can't send to it. It would be good if I could just type the mailing list name in the "To" field - is that impossible to implement?

I just created a new list in 78.4.1 and it was added to the To box in a Write window when I started typing the name and autocomplete displayed the full name. It also appears in the Contacts sidebar when the containing address book is selected at the top. Does the same thing happen in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB)?
