I was using TB 5 and upgraded to TB68. When I hit "Reply" on a message in the main Inbox, the From: field is properly filled in automatically. Also if I compose a brand new message it is filled in. But if I try to reply to a message that is in one of my Local Folders, the From: field is blank. After reading through the forum I checked and my main identity was not the default, so I changed it to be the default, but that did not help. (I have closed and restarted TB several times since then, so that is not the issue either).

have a look in account settings under outgoing server (SMTP) in the list of accounts. You will have more than one defined and one has the reply to address filled in and the other does not.

For the serial remover and adder account fixers they can have many outgoing servers as they delete only the incoming one and than the wizard adds the outgoing one again. Most confusing for those that expect an uninstall and reinstall for instance to actually fix something.

oops, I spoke too soon. Yesterday everything was working fine. But for some reason today it is not working again. There is only one identity, and it is set to default, so I don't see how it could be confused. I am using the OWL extension, I dont know if that makes a difference? THanks

OWL uses outlook web access to send mail... so my first answer was sort of right. you have two send servers... but one is owl. Now which is causing you issues is the tricky bit. If you are replying, Thunderbird will attempt to use the To information from the original message, but once owl get involved I have no idea.
