Last received email on pop account was on 12/30/2020. Since then, pop emails are not retrieved. Wireshark reveals that a connection is established with the email server. However, Thunderbird doesn't ask for the mail. Eventually, the connection just times out. Changing servers for the same pop email account results in the same sequence, server connection established, no ask for the emails. All other devices receive email from this pop account just fine.

So, why is Thunderbird no longer asking for the emails ?

Thanks!

Not using ESET/NOD32. THanks for the info though.

I ended up deleting the account and recreated it using IMAP rather than POP. Account now works.

Regards.

If you are using ESET/NOD32 security/AV then probability is very high it is causing your problems. According to their forums, you should temporarily disable SSL until they solve the problem per https://support.eset.com/en/kb3126-disable-ssl-filtering-in-eset-windows-products?ref=esf - the problem is being reported by dozens of users https://forum.eset.com/topic/26517-problems-with-thunderbird-and-imaps/ https://forum.eset.com/discover/
