I am running Thunderbird 78.7.1 on Mac OS X 10.12.6 and there are a lot of UI issues with disabled inputs - for example I am trying to search messages and if I select 'Body' as the target for the search the dropdown value doesn't change and the search text input box won't accept any characters.

Same issues with adding calendar events with disabled drop downs and unchangeable text inputs

This is making TB very hard to use

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

First thing to try is to disable hardware acceleration in Preferences/General/Indexing, then restart TB. If the problem remains in normal mode, launch again in safe mode, 'Reset toolbars & controls', 'Make changes & restart'.

Is there any change in safe mode (hold Option when launching TB)?

Thanks sfhowes for your reply and yes it seems to work fine when I launched TB in safe mode.

What should I do to propagate the safe mode behaviour to normal mode?

Many thanks Rich

Thanks so much! The indexing hardware acceleration was the problem.
