No option to remove Other Bookmarks on bookmaks toolbar?
Hi I have version 86.0 (64-bit) on Windows 10 2004. My issues is that there is supposed to be a right click menu option to remove the new Other Bookmarks folder form the bookmarks toolbar but I do not have that option.
My username on reddit is tharmalzombie and I asked that and the community provided a few things to try sadly no solution provided worked.
https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/m1srn2/how_do_i_remove_other_bookmarks_folder_from/
Another thing I tried not mentioned in the reddit post was to restart firefox in safe mode with addons disabled this did not help either.
I am not the only one with this issue as another user commented with same problem so there must be others.
Thanks for the reply.

I removed it by moving every single bookmark from there into another folder. This is the easiest way to do it, but if you wish to keep the bookmarks where they are, you may need to use about:config, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox
This is a new feature. Firefox used to always put your new bookmarks into the other bookmarks folder, so the developers made it available directly on the bookmarks bar likely because nobody could find the folder.
In Firefox 85+ you should be able to do this easily by right-clicking this button or free space and remove the tick on "Show Other Bookmarks".

Hi Thanks for reply unfortunately I forgot to mention my other bookmarks folder is empty and I even tried adding a bookmark to see if the menu option would appear but id did not work.

I wish you had of read the reddit post the whole reason I posted here is because I dont have the menu item to remove the other bookmarks folder.
I have all the items up to properties I don't have any menu items after that I have version 86 installed of firefox and the other bookmarks folder is empty.
Under those conditions (Other Bookmarks is empty) you do not have the Other Bookmarks folder visible, so no need to hide it. You would only have to add one bookmark to this folder to make this item appear in the context menu.
You can alternatively set browser.toolbars.bookmarks.showOtherBookmarks = false on the about:config page.

Hi Thermalzombie, what does your context menu look like if you right-click the Other Bookmarks folder on your Bookmarks Toolbar? Is Delete an enabled option?

Hi Thermalzombie, are you using any userChrome.css rules for your toolbars? If so, you might need to tweak them because the special Other Bookmarks folder could be matched by rules targeting other kinds of buttons.
Here's the button code, showing the extra attribute used to hide the folder:
<toolbarbutton id="OtherBookmarks" class="bookmark-item" type="menu" container="true" onpopupshowing="..." data-l10n-id="other-bookmarks-folder" label="Other Bookmarks" hidden="true"> <menupopup is="places-popup" placespopup="true" context="placesContext" id="OtherBookmarksPopup"/> <image class="toolbarbutton-icon" type="menu" label="Other Bookmarks"/> <label class="toolbarbutton-text" crop="right" flex="1" value="Other Bookmarks"/> </toolbarbutton>

Thanks for reply I dont have the menu option. attached is a screen cap I just took and there is no remove option. If you wouldn't mind reading the reddit post. I have tried many things I don't really want to reset firefox or change profiles as this is the only issue I am having.
As I said the menu is empty but it is still showing up. I have tried a few about:config setting they did nothing. And another user is having the same issues and stated about:config did not help him either.

Sorry not sure if you got my last message. Included is a image.
Hi, I see you have some posts in the moderation queue. Don't quote my reply with the image in the body. As a I mentioned below that screen capture, that will delay your replies appearing in the thread.

Please read the reddit post as it contains thing I have tried as I said I don't have any bookmarks in the other bookmarks folder I have version 86 I have tried about:fonfig commands nothing has worked.
In your Imgur screenshot, Delete is enabled on the context menu. If it was the "real" Other Bookmarks folder, that would not be enabled. Have you tried using Delete?

No I have not tried using delete yes it is the menu I get when right clicking on other bookmarks.
I was not sure if clicking delete would make things worse. Also I got the update today version 86.0.1 did not fix it.
Weird. Delete is enabled, but Properties isn't. A user created folder would have Properties enabled as well.
If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.
This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.
- use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.
If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
You lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.

One exception would be places query folders. But those are fairly rare...
