ALL my emails are showing in my inbox (thousands of them) and slowing system down. Sent folder, everything. How can I stop this?

Hi all,

I installed the conversation add on. Didn't like it and removed it. I then flicked a few switches in the View menu (can't recall all the ones) including threaded view etc.

I then went to my inbox and it's got EVERY single email in my database showing there. It shows sent folder messages, other folder messages. Just SO many. It's crashing my system.

What setting can I change to stop this? I've restarted but it's taking forever to load as it tries to search the massive number of emails.

Any help would be great. I'm really falling behind in work.

Thanks so much

Hi there, thanks for the answer. Thundebird was unresponsive due to the large number of emails in the inbox. So I was fortunate to have another thunderbird on my laptop. I :

- uninstalled thunderbird
- removed all user data
- re-installed thunderbird
- copied my user data folder from other laptop to main machine
- setup the newly copied profile as my main profile.

I was lucky to have that as the unresponsiveness of the software meant I could not try any of your suggested steps.

Thank you for your help though, it's appreciated and hopefully helps someone else in the future! :-)

Hi I would begin by turning off each setting you remember changing in View, particularly Threaded, one at a time. Close and open Thunderbird after each setting change and check the result before making another change. If you have POP accounts you could have turned on Global Inbox (although that's more complex than simply flicking a View setting), and if you have IMAP accounts, check Unified View. if either of those names rings a bell, try changing them, again one at a time. Look up those settings online - thunderbird support articles often have screen illustrations that may help you compare with how your system looks, and thus which setting to undo. Good luck, Agnes
