Basic Browsing issues

I have 2 issues that seem related, and difficult to explain. I'll do my best. 1) Left clicking on (typically News) links (to open in a new tab) opens the new tab and shows the url in the address bar, but the new link isn't opened. I have to click on the (new tab) address bar and select "visit" for the page to load (or carefully goto the end of the url in the address bar and hit Enter). 2) Lots of Websites want to collect your email address immediately when their webpage opens. An easy one to see this is Walmart.com. Firefox jumps to the bottom of the webpage. Chrome behaves better and opens a popup at the bottom of the screen (still at the top of the webpage).

I discovered these while running Firefox in safe mode to see which, if any, of my add-ons might be the cause. I finally discovered my add-ons are not the cause. In Chrome these issues just don't manifest. Naturally I'm a Firefox fan, I'm uptodate and eager to learn if these are known issues. TIA Steve

you can try a test by creating a new profile temporarily and then trying the issues out on it. If the new profile works, then this will be a clue as to the next steps to take.

go to following url and find/click on create button:

about:profiles

OK and Thanks ! That changed everything. Though I had been running the same version, there seems to be a lot of "extra" features revealed with the new "blank" profile, and the 2 issues went away. From my limited testing I'd say this is an interesting but very difficult way to debug. It's hard to go from one profile to another (attempting to discover the troublemaker add-on). Has Firefox an easier way ? Perhaps to launch with one or the other profile enabled ? Or should I simply abandon my old profile and call the issues "profile related" ?

Is that a Fast Fish or a slow Fish in a Traffic Jam ?

Keep in mind that FF is stable and most times FF is not the problem, but the symptom.

My further suggestion at this time is to clone the functional profile a couiple of more times. They will be like backup.

Also, open the Edge browser and execute a import of everything from FF. This too will serve as a backup. So if you have to re-install FF, you can execute an import from edge.

Anycase, we are glad to help.
