I use to be able to see photos that were sent to me in the body of the email without having to download them when the email was opened. Now, I only see a black outline for each image but not the photo, etc. What has happened and how do I get to fix this so I can actually see the photos before I download them to view them? Thank you.

Are the images visible when the messages are viewed in webmail? Are the images embedded in the body or hosted on remote servers? What are your remote content settings and Exclusions in Options/Privacy & Security? What is the View/Message Body As setting?

Thank you for responding but I am not too sure of your questions. But, in the past any photos sent to me in emails appeared in the actual body of the email without me having to do anything to see them. Not sure why this has changed. Are there settings that need to be done to get back to the way it was? I think when Thunderbird updated some time ago that is what changed it.

You have to see if the images are visible in webmail, because if they aren't, the blocking is done before the messages are seen in TB. If they are visible in webmail, do you have a security app that blocks images, especially if they are remote images or the messages are marked as spam?

Hello sfhowes, again, thank you for your response. No, the images are not visible in the AOL web mail. They just appear outlined in black outlines but no photo in the space. But, further down in the web mail are the two small images that mention that they were sent from 'the new AOL app for Android.' I just forwarded the email from my Trash of the original email on Thunderbird to myself and looked at it on the webmail page (the photos were originally taken with an Android phone and then sent in an email to Thunderbird). I find this quite confusing as in the past, in my emails on Thunderbird I could see all photos, etc. that were sent to me in the body of the email without having to download them. I firmly believe that when Thunderbird did an update some time ago this caused this as I have had this problem for some time, now. I would love to have that all back but I have exhausted my search how to do that. Again, thank you for your help and hopefully, you or someone will be able to solve this perplexing situation.

If the images don't appear in webmail, see if these instructions make them appear:
