Will the "System theme" be removed in a future release?

more options

Hello, when I recently updated I was offered a choice of UI themes, including "System theme" which states: "Follow the operating system setting for buttons, menus, and windows." My question is, will this "System theme" option be removed in a future release?

As a visually-impaired user I use a high contrast theme with custom button sizes etc,in Windows, and so was greatly worried by talk of a new Firefox theme that uses its own UI / colour-scheme which might not meet my needs. So when updating I was delighted to see the above option. I chose it and FF continues to use my needed system colours etc. Phew, I thought, crisis averted.

But I am now panicking again at other things I have since read, about certain UI options gbeing disabled eventually. I am unclear as to whether it is the ability to disable specific elements within the new UI theme for those that use it that is under threat, or whether it is the ability to choose the alternative "System theme" that is under threat? Thanks.

One-off bump. Can anyone confirm or deny the title question?

I don't think anyone is going to remove the System Theme as long as we have this new "Proton" UI design. Maybe in a few years it will change again.

Thank you, and pleas let them never remove the 'use system settings' theme.

I think it somehow offends the developers' sensibilities that I should have arrows/steppers in my scrollbar, and that I might want the "thumb" to be visible and accessible. I'm sure the GTK devs hate them (and I have top have GTK overrides defined for GTK2 and GTK3 to keep scrollbar arrows where they belong).

As a Windows person, I can't test stuff like this, but I did a bit of searching. Does anything in the following thread seem relevant: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/om2b9q/how_to_make_scrollbar_use_systemgtktheme/

Looks like I have to edit the preferences in about:config *AND* set up userChrome.css.

Still doesn't fix the System-UI font, although they probably *assumed* it would be usable.

How about starting a different thread for that.

There are quite a few widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar prefs present on the about:config page.

  • widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.allow-buttons = true
  • widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.round-thumb = true

I already *have* a thread for that on various sites. Have yet to find an answer.
