Since upgrading to TB 91 (currently 91.2.0), it consistently takes 5+ minutes to start [Windows 10 Pro x64 v. 21H1], even in Safe Mode (all extensions disabled). I can see the Disk Active time pegged at 100% in the Task Manager during this time, but little to no CPU usage. I am using F-Secure Security Suite for AV (rebranded for Spectrum). Suggestions as to how to fix this?

Try running Windows in safe mode to see if startup apps like F-Secure are causing the delay.

The general recommendation is to exclude the TB profile folder from AV scanning.

I added my TB profile folder to the F-Secure AV excluded folders - didn't help. Still takes several minutes to start up. (Also updated to 91.2.1.)

Ok finally getting around to troubleshooting this. I uninstalled F-Secure Security Suite for AV and it is still happening. This is incredibly frustrating. What is causing this massive delay?

Long startups might be due to several accounts, address books or calendars that sync at startup. Perhaps test with a separate profile, and add one account. If it starts normally, keep adding accounts, calendars etc. and see if the startup delay increases significantly at some point. I can see that the C: disk Active Time is pegged solid at 100% in Task Manager during those 5 minutes - something is being scanned.

Is this with the original profile or a new one? If you currently have Windows Defender as the AV, add the TB profile folder as an Exclusion.

This is with the original profile. In Windows Security -> Virus & threat protection -> Exclusions:Add or remove exclusions, I excluded c:\Users\cgtyoder\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\43c9y4rt437.default-release\ (that last dir name is made up but you get the idea).

I really don't want to create a new profile, as I have heavily customized this profile, with 6 email accounts. But I will grudgingly do so if that is the last available option.

Without knowing the details of your setup, it's difficult to offer specific advice. I suggest you work through this list to see if any of the items apply:
