Stripe.com crashing Firefox
Hi guys! Stripe.com crashes FF. The site only displays about halfway down its homepage, then crashes FF. I've cleared cookies, all history, removed and reloaded FF, turned off tracking protection for Stripe at the address bar, lowered tracking settings to standard in FF, turned off hardware acceleration, and contacted Stripe directly. But they can't help with browser specific issues accept to offer standard solutions, which I already tried. Also, Stripe works fine in Chrome.
I'm using 1password extension, and for plugins: OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. and Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc. I deactivated both those plugins but no use. Ideas? Thanks! Ken

Thank you for the reports. I didn't check them all, but the ones I opened seem to have the same sequence of events. The crashing thread dump refers to GL and WebGL, which are graphics processes. Since hardware acceleration improves the appearance of fonts and animations, you may want to check whether graphics card/chipset driver updates are available for your system. This article suggests safe ways to do that: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.
Please, Do not post a screenshot ! !

Thanks Fred!
I've pasted the list below. But all the most recent crashes don't even appear here, even though I've been choosing "submit" most times after the crash. I have no idea why that is.
Also, I find that FF crashes or freezes the most when I'm on banking sites. With time, the issue resolves on its own. Or it resolves after a reboot. But this Stripe issue hasn't let up. This is a first.

. . . But all the most recent crashes don't even appear here, even though I've been choosing "submit" most times after the crash.
When a crash report fails, it means the servers decided they don’t need that report.
“You're seeing this page because the crash report you selected was held back from submission. For statistical purposes, we don't need every crash report and sometimes we decline the submission of a crash report as a form of throttling." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Bug 1662317 About Throttling Steps to reproduce:
My Firefox crashed but did not submit the crash report.
Actual results:
I tried to manually send the report, and the system gave me the message: About Throttling
Expected results:
If Mozilla does not need the report, I, the user, still want to know what happened. How else can I fix or understand what went wrong?

Attention Sumo's there are 12 related bug reports.
The bug reports suggest the problem is caused by an Apple update
Check out; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/support-forum-contributors/715375 Mac's crashing = bug reports think related to Apple update
For some reason, none of my submitted crash reports are actually getting submitted. Nothing past June. I read the Apple related info. Above my paygrade. Guess I'll wait and see how this pays out via this thread. I appreciate all the attention Fred!
Now www.creditonebank.com is crashing it too. This is new.
Have you tested in Firefox's Safe Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.
If Firefox is running:
You can restart Firefox in Safe/Troubleshoot Mode using either:
- "3-bar" menu button > Help > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
- (menu bar) Help menu > Troubleshoot Mode... (before Fx88: Restart with Add-ons Disabled)
and OK the restart. A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).
If Firefox is not running:
Hold down the option/alt key when starting Firefox. (On Windows, hold down the Shift key instead of the option/alt key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).
Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.
Any difference?
Well now...yes. That changed things! I can open Stripe and Credit One. No more crashes.
What next?
The key changes in Firefox's Safe Mode are:
(A) All Extensions (main type of add-on) are disabled -- I'll describe where to manually review these
(B) Hardware acceleration of graphics is disabled -- this doesn't make as much sense to me as a culprit because why would financial institution sites be specifically affected?
(C) JavaScript compilers are disabled -- this doesn't make as much sense to me as a culprit because why would financial institution sites be specifically affected?
You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.
If there is at least one extension before the next heading -- "Recommended Extensions" -- please continue:
Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything related to banking, or looking suspicious, or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.
Any improvement the next time you run in regular mode?
Still crashing in normal mode. I removed all extensions except for 1password, which I tested while disabled. No difference. Stripe only crashes when I attempt to scroll down the page.
Something else: I cleared out all my crash reports. Now a fresh list is available. But I had to manually submit from the list. The popup on crash isn't doing it when I click submit for some reason. Here's new report list:

jscher2000: Disabling WebGL did the trick!
Final question: I'm assuming that normal operation would be to leave WebGL enabled. If so, is performance going to suffer elsewhere now that it's disabled?
You will get missing content on pages like Google Maps/Earth that use WebGL to display their data.
Maybe file a bug report.
