Have asked SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE. Need to delete old email account in thunderbird. Tried posted solutions but nothing works and it is always asking for sign in/password which will not work. PLEASE HELP...Very annoying.

This often happens when there is still an orphan smtp server. Check under tools>accountsettings>outgoing server. My guess is there may be one more server there than you have accounts.
