Thunderbird opens malware/yahoo window in Thunderbird when checking mail
Recently, when checking yahoo mail (pop.mail.yahoo.com), Thunderbird 91.12.0 (64-bit) on Mac OS X 10.13.6 has started opening a web-content window in Thunderbird for what appears to be malware. The window url has, for example, casalemedia.com, yimg.com, or others. Strangely, perhaps, one time it was tag.idsync.analytics.yahoo.com.
Is this malware, or is yahoo somehow triggering this when mail is checked? How is that even possible?
How can I stop this from happening?

Your "malware" is Yahoo asking for you to authorize Thunderbird to get mail on your behalf. I suggest you log in using the page and allow the authentication to actually complete.
That did work for me. It does give me the creeps, though.
I added the app-specific password in Yahoo, and it fixed the problem, but it's worrying to me that Thunderbird is opening the browser window (not Chrome) and that Yahoo was offering casalemedia.com which seems to be known malware.
