I have been using Thunderbird for several years. I used to be able to make a task list with repeating tasks for thing like recycling and other household tasks that repeat on a regular basis. I now seem to be able to only add those things as events in the calendar. I don't want them mixed in between the sports events, birthdays and appointments, I want them in the tasks list so that I can mark them as done on the day they are supposed to be done. Can this option be brought back? Tasks now only have a start date and a completion date, not repeating as before. Like I am not a business, so don't need those tasks like a business has tasks occurring only once. I need the repeating tasks so that I can easily remember which days has recycling pickup that only happens every other week, and other things that only happen once a month, but on a regular basis.

Is this happening with a local calendar or a network calendar? For the former, the repeat interval setting is present in the New Task (Ctrl+D) dialog. If it's something like a Google network calendar, tasks aren't available with the built-in CalDAV setup, but I believe they are with the Provider add-on and possibly also with TbSync.

This is happening on both. As a matter of fact when I created a calendar on my computer it told me that I needed to select a calendar that allowed tasks, and no, when creating a task there is no option at all to indicate repeating. That only appears when creating an event, not a task. So it now seems that the repeating is only allowed on events, not tasks.

The attached picture shows the New Task dialog here in W10/TB 102.4, on a new, local calendar. What is your TB version?

OK, tried again, and yes, this time it did allow me to add the repeats. But, in the task listing of the today pane it no longer allows me to mark it as done and make it disappear from the list for that day. It just shows the marking box with a mark in it at all times (not clickable), and when I scroll through days the list doesn't change like it used to, it just shows the same list every day. What am I missing here??? The tasks used to change the same way as the calendar listing does, change whatever needs to be done on that day, and yes still list uncompleted tasks, but once completed for that instance it would disappear until the next instance. Having the same list show every day doesn't help. And my version of TB is 102.4, it is set to update automatically. I did change to W11 a couple of weeks ago, but I had the problems with tasks on W10 for the last couple of years. That started I think when Google no longer allowed tasks in their type of calendar, but for quite a while it would not work with a calendar on my computer, just kept telling me to use a calendar that allowed tasks.

When I create a new task in a local calendar, it appears in the Tasks sidebar, and the Tasks tab. If a task is marked Completed from the context menu in the sidebar, it disappears from view in the sidebar, and is marked with a strikethrough on the tab. Tasks can be removed from the tab by Delete Task in the task right-click menu. So I can't explain why your calendar doesn't work the same. Perhaps try creating a new local test calendar and see if it works as expected.

I created a new calendar this morning and added 3 tasks to test. This is what shows in the 'today' bar at the right hand side at the bottom. I can't click any of them, nor do they change when I change the day. 1 is for every other Monday, 1 is for every Monday and one is for every other Tuesday. But all 3 show on all days, and there is no way I can click them to be done.

If you right-click a task, do you see the menu in the attached picture with 'Mark Completed' and 'Delete Task'?

Yes, that way I can mark them completed, but.... it marks all future ones also completed, so they will not show up on the next week or 2 weeks. So I went to the tasks tab, listed them for the next 7 days, right clicked on the one that should come up on Oct 31 and it says it was already completed on Oct 31. So something is not working somewhere. I also tried to unmark them completed on the tasks tab, and they still don't show up at all on the today tab, not even for today.
