I can downloadThunderbird but not run it or apparently install it
Please give step by step instructions to install and operate Thunderbird. I assumed it would run automatically when I pressed the appropriate "button".

It will still not let me proceed - says bad username or password when I try to run the programs. Are the available versions too large for Windows 7?
Your thread title is misleading. If you're getting a username/password error, then it means you've successfully installed and ran Thunderbird, and the problem now lies with adding your email account to Thunderbird. Who is your email service provider?
