The picture-in-picture function no longer works on my phone when viewing YouTube videos on my Android Firefox app.

In previous versions, I was able to enter full-screen mode while playing a YouTube video, then click the "home" button on my phone, and the video would play in picture-in-picture mode while I scrolled through other apps.

I am fully updated as of today (4/11/2023), I have tried the functionality with no add-ons and with the "Video Background Player" add-on, and I have double-checked to make sure that the "picture-in-picture" permission is checked for the app (it is).

My device specs are attached in the image below.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I'm also having the same issue. Picture-in-picture for youtube.com stopped working suddenly for Firefox andriod (haven't tried other websites). I checked the permissions, updated Firefox, and removed add-ons to see if those were causing an issue, but nothing worked. I'm having the same issue in Firefox beta.

I have this same problem on my galaxy s7, picture in picture stopped working a few days ago. Tried clearing cache and rebooting phone but no luck. I also no longer get media controls in the always-on display, and doing play/pause from my bluetooth device doesn't work either.

Soooo is Mozilla working on this or...? Because I've been trying and retrying picture-in-picture mode every day since I posted this thread and nothing has changed. Again, I have the newest version of Firefox available from the Google play store.

I'm on a samsung A52 and also can't use pip after the new update (v112). This is really annoying since I used it all the time. Really hope they fix this soon. :(

Same issue, i have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and running Firefox 112.2.0.

Update: so it seems that PIP no longer works with youtube. Tryed other streamers like DTube (didn't know they existed till today ... loool) and PIP seems to be working.

Updated my Android Firefox app this morning and still no picture-in-picture video function. If something has changed on YouTube's end regarding not allowing browsers to play videos in picture-in-picture mode, then Firefox should address that in the Google store. At the moment of writing this comment, Firefox Android on Google store still says "WATCH VIDEOS WHILE YOU MULTITASK Pop videos out of their web pages or players and pin them to the top of your phone's screen to watch while you surf the web and do other things." which is most certainly NOT something you can do with the current update of Firefox Android.

Hi

This does appear to be an issue that our developers are aware of and are looking into. You can follow progress on this and add comments at:
