Thunderbird is marking junk email correctly in my inbox, but does not automatically move the email to the Junk folder. I have, as far as I can tell, all settings enabled correctly in Account Settings and Settings > Privacy and Security. I also have the most recent version of Thunderbird. I do not remember when this action started.

When this has happened to me, there have been two causes.

One was my antivirus, I had to exclude the Thunderbird profile from it's depredations as it was causing file contention. The second was issues with the global database (they might also have originated with contention.) so I deleted it. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/rebuilding-global-database.

Thank you, Matt. I'm giving that global reindexing a try now because I have clicked "J" to automatically label dozens of messages from the same email address as Junk and move them to the spam folder, but they just keep coming into my inbox with the little red "junk" icon next to them. It's been going on for years and it's driving me insane. I posted about it here a while ago and got 3 views and 0 replies.

As things are not moving to the junk folder, I would say the issue is NOT the global index, it will be file contention caused most probably by the anti virus program scanning. Is your Thunderbird profile excluded from on access scanning?
