Firefox won't load pages in a reasonable amount of time

After decades using Firefox, I've now resorted to Microsoft Edge to get access to the internet. Firefox seems to work ok for a few minutes after a restart, then gets to the point where it will take minutes to load a page that I have used frequently in the past. I re-downloaded Firefox from your website, but that did not fix the problem. How do I get back to normal?
