Adding gmail account stuck on "checking password" restart, reinstall Thunderbird doesn't help. Gmail acknowledges acess however.
I was hoping to use Thunderbird for my gmail account but after a number of attempts it won't complete creating the account even though Gmail acknowledges giving access. Stuck on "checking password"

Not sure what you mean, but check the following article. You may need to enable cookies and JavaScript, as described there:
