My OS WinXP seems to think i am using Internet Explorer, despite the fact that Firefox is my only browser. I tried access my Add-ons, but I select Tools->Add-Ons, and the list shows up but disappears when I try to click on one. I visited the Download Helper page at http://www.downloadhelper.net/ and see the message "You are using Internet Explorer. Instead of using Video DownloadHelper for Firefox, you should try DownloadHelper for IE" Despite the fact that Firefox is my ONLY browser. Firefox otherwise works fine.

Your screen on about:config should look like this

(See attached screenshot)

Then after you have gotten there click the button where it says I'll be careful I promise!

Go to the Filter search field then type useragent press ENTER.

Click on the First one and type Firefox/3.6.3 or whatever your build is (To check this go to _Help>About Mozilla Firefox)

Click the second one and put en-US (This is your language)

Third one put U__

That is all!

Then restart Firefox and you should be able to install DownloadHelper

MJB:

Saying, "Click on the First one and type..." and "Click the second one and put..." is not necessarily a good way to do this. My first item with Filter=useragent has to do with an add-on. The exact name of the preference would be better so that there is no misunderstanding.

The settings should be to, respectively: general.useragent.extra.firefox (mine is Firefox/3.6.3) general.useragent.locale (mine is en-US)

TXGuy: Sorry about this
