I am using Atlassian Confluence as an intranet Knowledge base with Firefox as the browser. but if I put a hyperlink to a local file Firefox will not open it (I have tried the - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Error+opening+Internet+shortcut+or+local+HTML+file. -link) but all my entries are as per the recommendation. What I notice is that the hyperlink starts File:\\library\databases\paint.mdb but on the status bar in Firefox I see File:\\\library\databases\paint.mdb (ie three slashes). It all works fine when I open the knowledge base with Explorer.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

== always

This did not solve my problem

First I tried the local link extension but that did not work, it seems someone else found the same thing, but I can’t find a way to contact the author.

So then as I am using Firefox 3.6.3 I am reading the paragraph Firefox 1.5,SeaMonkey 1.0 and newer

It seems I should add a line to user.js or prefs.js - How do I know which?

Three lines are given – Do I need all three or just one?

If I want my browser to have access to a drive on my server which is mapped a J: I presume I have to use the full address of the drive – but what would be the syntax for that?
