Have used firefox for ages w/ no problem - this morning firefox will not access internet - modem and router are fine, Inernet Explorer is accesses fine. Firefox is set to use system proxy settings, tried " no proxy" , didn't work, checked windows and Mcaffey firewalls, didn't find anything that should be blocking it. Have rebooted/restarted everything

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

This moringing - last successfully used 3hrs ago - kids claim they "didn't do anything..."

User Agent

They've done something with firefox 3.6.8 which now upsets the McAffee firewall. Since upgrading I get the firewall alert pop-ups. If you click Block (which your kids might have done) then Firefox will be blocked completely.

If you dig into the McAffee tools Firewall->Program Permissions you will probably find Firefox listed there as "blocked".

On my machine the Entry is for "Outgoing" only and I now keep getting the alerts. I suspect they will go away if I switch this to "Full". But I'm loathe to do that, why should a browser need to accept incoming connections, why was this change made and what benefit is it to us as users?

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

Maybe you activate proxy settings inside of Firefox, also check your Firewall protection inside of Antvirus tool

SinceI upgraded to 3.6.8, when I click on the FF icon, my system does a "cold" boot. I removed McAfee completely, still did it. I wiped the hard drive, re-installed XP w/SP3, Word 2003, and an older Firefox version (3.5.4) that I knew worked previously...no help - system still re-booted when trying to use Firefox. Removed that version and installed 3.5.7 - no help. I need FF to work with McAfee because the university requires/uses McAfee to login (they load & supply it initially). I am NOT amused....hee, hee, hee...

IE 8 works fine (64 bit) on the internet, but FF (3.6) does not. I get a 'Server not found' error message on my HP laptop running Windows 7. The Vista desktop works fine. On my laptop I have: -tried other browsers. They also do not work. -uninstalled my Shaw firewall, and used the cleaning tool to make sure it was removed -check and rechecked every setting on the Windows firewall. Everything is enabled and allowed. -scanned for viruses with at least 3 different applications - none found - reset the TCP connection -reset the winsock connection -made sure that NO PROXY was being used -tried a direct connection to the modem, bypassing the router and wireless card. -tried Safe Mode with networking -and several other useless 'fixes' that I have found on the internet.

Firefox, my preferred browser, still does not work. Any suggestions appreciated.
