I had to register with http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging to ask a question about Thunderbird.

I had to register with support.mozilla.com to ask a question about Firefox.

Same email address but I had to use a different user name, which I now have to remember. Why can't different pieces all use the same login?

That's two separate forums, and Mozilla really doesn't have any connection to GetSatisfaction. Thunderbird isn't maintained by Mozilla any longer, it's a "community" project now-a-days, just like SeaMonkey is a maintained by the "community".

You should use the Password Manager to remember your passwords for the various website you use, that's what it is for. Plus, unless you're using a character in your username or password that one forum or another doesn't allow, there's no reason you can't use the same username and password for all of them.

Personally, I use the-edmeister and the same password on at least 8 different forums with no problems. I use the-edmeister as my username in 4 different email portals, too, the only one I can't is with Gmail as they didn't allow hypens or underscores as a character for the username when I signed up for that account years ago. Same password for all those email accounts, but more characters than for support forum logon's for greater security.

Wha...wha...what?This is the first I heard about the divorce. mozilla.com has a link for Thunderbird which takes you to mozillamessaging.com along with other pages dealing with Thunderbird but nothing obvious that says they have gone their separate ways.

I can use the same password but some one must have beaten me to the user name. Of course I can use the same password but I still have different usernames.
