Using 3.6.13 and I go to some websites with forums which allow me to upload files (pictures for example).

I click on their upload and navigate to the picture I want to upload and press OK.

It thinks about it and comes back with an error suggesting I use the classic uploader.

Subsequent attachments in that session use the classic uploader.

Is there a way to make FF use the classic uploader by default on these sites if the problem can't be fixed?

Have you tired disabling the two uploader extensions that you have installed in Firefox?

Ooops. No.

And now I shall make a real idiot of myself.....

Which two are they - I know I have one for youtube - and the other?

Are they in the "add-on" section/part?

You have this extension installed: Firefox Universal Uploader (fireuploader)
See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

Do some sites use a plugin like Java or Silverlight (Hotmail) to upload flies ?

Other things that you can look at:

Your above posted system details show multiple Java Console extensions.
You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions

You can also disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions

  • Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

See http://www.java.com/en/download/help/quickstarter.xml - What is Java Quick Starter (JQS)? What is the benefit of running JQS? - 6.0

Thanks guys for the help.

Ok, I read about all the "extra" versions of JAVA and how they can cause problems.

To get around this, although they are installed, they are DISABLED. I don't know if this will fix the problem or not. But I just don't like ripping things out here and there because as the link said: That can cause problems of its own too.

The forums I am in have an upload button/function and I get to it. Click on the "add file" and after selecting a file, it says doesn't work. But if I click a link "Basic uploader" it works.

GMAIL is a good example where if I want to attach a file, I have to use/select the CLASSIC UPLOADER before I do anything.
