before I change from Internet Explorer to Firefox, I need to be sure I will not lose any of my "Favorites" as stored on IE and if Favorites are treated (saved/accessed/organized) differently on Firefox.

OK, thanks for the input. Guess I'll download Firefox when I get the chance and give it a try.

Firefox stores the bookmarks (and history) in a SQLite database file called places.sqlite and not as IE as separate files on your hard drive. You can choose to import the IE favorites if you start Firefox for the first time.
