Is Firefox configured to accept session cookies only from Gmail? If so, when you close FF it will delete the cookie which will require you to login again.
Also, try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it works correctly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
Incidentally, Flash is out of date which potentially exposes your system to hacking. Update via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
