In all the previous versions of Firefox, when I close Firefox, I was asked if I wanted to save my tabs. The latest version is not allowing that option. Why not and what setting will bring this function back. I should not have to pull down the History menu and request Previous Session, I should be able to start with my previous session if I exit and not close the tabs.

Upgrades should increase functionality and NOT completely change the look and feel of the program.

Thanks

"I had also originally asked where the setting was to have Firefox open with my previous tabs."

I do not see that in your original question, above. I have supplied an answer to that question in my second response:

  • You can set that option in Options > General, change "When Firefox opens:" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

"If you are receiving a number of the same questions I would think you and your associates could inform Mozilla of the user base concerns."

  1. That is not our function in being here.
  2. You can submit feedback (very limited comment area; there will be no response to you from Submitting Feedback): Help > Submit Feedback
  3. You can also comment at the following address (there will be no response to you from the following link; more comment space available on this link): http://hendrix.mozilla.org/

If the above has answered your question(s), please take a couple of minutes to return to the forum, sign in and click "Solved" next to the answer that solved your Firefox support issue, so that other users can find answers that have worked to solve problems. Thanks.

One of the changes in Firefox 4: by default Firefox 4 does not display the "Save Tabs and Exit" warning message when closing multiple tabs, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

  • Saving tabs was not removed from Firefox 4, but it works a bit differently.
  • By default, Firefox 4 will not ask to save tabs, but instead it will always save your tabs on exit unless you are in Private Browsing mode. You can restore them next time by:
    1. clicking Firefox button > History >"Restore Previous Session", or
    2. type about:home in the URL bar and press the Enter key, then press the "Restore Previous Session" button
  • Note: This was a decision by the developers. On this forum, we are all uncompensated volunteers here to help other users. The developes/employees of Mozilla/Firefox rarely, if ever visit here.

Some things to check:

  1. Browsing history must be saved
    • Firefox button: Firefox button > Options > Options > Privacy > [X] Remember my browsing history
    • Menu Bar: Tools > Options > Privacy > [X] Remember my browsing history
  2. Also make sure you do not clear "Browsing History" when using Clear Recent History or when closing Firefox
    • Using Clear Recent History
      • Firefox button: Firefox button > History >Clear Recent History
      • Menu Bar: Tools > Clear Recent History
    • When closing Firefox
  3. Make sure you are not in Private Browsing mode or in permanent Private Browsing mode:
  4. If you have theTab Mix Plusextension, then disable the built-in session restore.

To display the "Save Tabs and Exit" message when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following:

  1. Type about:config in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the Enter key
  2. Accept the warning message (promise to be careful)
  3. The preferences page/list will open
  4. Filter = browser.tabs.warnOnClose
  5. If its value is set to false, double-click on it (in the lower panel) to toggle its value to true
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for these following 3 preferences also:
    • browser.warnOnQuit
    • browser.warnOnRestart
    • browser.showQuitWarning

You need to update the following:

  • Shockwave Flash 10.2 r153
  1. Check your plugin versions on either of the following links':
  2. Update the Flash plugin to the latest version.
    • Download and SAVE to your Desktop so you can find the installer later
    • If you do not have the current version, click on the "Player Download Center" link on the "Download and information" or "Download Manual installers" below
    • After download is complete, exit Firefox
    • Click on the installer you just downloaded and install
      • Windows 7 and Vista: may need to right-click the installer and choose "Run as Administrator"
    • Start Firefox and check your version again or test the installation by going back to the download link below
    • Download and information: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
      • Use Firefox to go to the above site to update the Firefox plugin (will also install plugin for most other browsers; except IE)
      • Use IE to go to the above site to update the IE ActiveX
    • Download Manual installers.

Thank you for your response.

I do not agree with the idea to not ask about closing the tabs. If they wanted to not ask about saving my tabs, then why not open with my previous session.

Like I mentioned in my question, why make such dramatic changes look and feel? Efficient coding, use less memory and WORK without taking up resources, that should be the goal of programmer's first...

Perhaps you did not read the 3rd bullet point in my post. It says:

  • Note: This was a decision by the developers. On this forum, we are all uncompensated volunteers here to help other users. The developes/employees of Mozilla/Firefox rarely, if ever visit here.

"If they wanted to not ask about saving my tabs, then why not open with my previous session."

You can set that option in Options > General, change "When Firefox opens:" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time".

"I do not agree with the idea to not ask about closing the tabs."

You can change the behavior to be like previous Firefox versions by following the steps shown under "To display the "Save Tabs and Exit" message when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following: " in my post.

Thank you for answering the original question. I had also originally asked where the setting was to have Firefox open with my previous tabs. The Firefox Help says to check a setting but it does not say where that setting is, especially if it is not obvious.

I understand that you do not work for Mozilla and you are here to help users. If you are receiving a number of the same questions I would think you and your associates could inform Mozilla of the user base concerns.

The initial issue is solved.

I did ask that question:

...and what setting will bring this function back.

Thanks

Your question was concerning a setting to bring back the popup when closing Firefox asking whether you want to save your tabs:

  • "In all the previous versions of Firefox, when I close Firefox, I was asked if I wanted to save my tabs. The latest version is not allowing that option. Why not and what setting will bring this function back."

There is only an option in the prefs (about:config) to restore the previous behavior of presenting you with a window to save tabs when closing Firefox.
There is no option to check on any of the options panels that will restore that functionality!!
I answered that question in my first response which I will duplicate for you below:

To display the "Save Tabs and Exit" message when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following:

  1. Type about:config in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the Enter key
