When I open a new tab, why do I see 12 previous sites in a dropdown, and how can I get rid of these?

When I open a new page in a new tab, as soon as I type the first w of www, a drop-down menu of 12 sites that I have visited at some point previously appears. These sites seem to be totally random and remain the same no matter how often I clear my history etc.

Basically, I don't want to see them and would like to know how to get rid of them.

You can set the Location Bar to show "Nothing":

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Location Bar: When using the location bar, suggest: Nothing

Many thanks, folks. That's done the trick.
