I changed my previously stored password to a website, I can't get Firefox to store the new password. It keeps filling in the old password. How can I get Firefox to change to the new password?

When I create sign on user id and password to websites, I normally ask Firefox to store my password. Firefox does a good job or remembering. When I have to change the password, Firefox doesn't seem to know I changed to the new password. I can't get Firefox to ask me to store the change password. As a result, I have to type in my new password over the old password filled in by Firefox. What am I missing?

Maybe the website is using autocomplete=off to prevent that.

Thanks, unfortunately this didn't resolve my issue. I am using Firefox 4.0.1. Doesn't people change passwords periodically and tried to the browser to remember the new password?

Does Firefox offer to store a new password if you remove the old password?

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
