The correct answer depends on whether these bookmarks are to be added to your existing bookmarks or are to replace all of your bookmarks.

WILL first assume they are to be added. When you import the bookmarks they will be imported to the end of your "Bookmarks Menu" folder. So before you start you might want to add to bookmark separators at the very end of you "Bookmarks Menu" folder. Bookmarks are not merged and you will probably end up with duplicates if you currently have bookmarks.

"Ctrl+Shift+B" (View > "Show All Bookmarks") then on the Library List menu choose "Import and Backup" then "Import HTML" then "From a File".

Move bookmarks where you want them and get rid of what you don't want.

IF you don't wish to keep your current bookmarks. Start Firefox in Safe Mode, which on Firefox 4.0 can be done through your Help menu

  1. Alt+H (Help)
  2. Restart with addons disabled)

Continuing:

  • "Reset bookmarks to Firefox defaults", and choose "Make Changes and Restart", before importing the bookmarks HTML file.
  • Then proceed as before to import your bookmarks...
  • "Ctrl+Shift+B" (View > "Show All Bookmarks") then on the Library List menu choose "Import and Backup" then "Import HTML" then "From a File".

Since the bookmarks will have replaced your existing bookmarks there is no cleanup.
