Some few weeks ago, a malware add-on was installed to my current Mozilla Aurora profile. I have disabled it from the Add-Ons menu, but no delete option was present.

I used: "about:support" to find out the name, to which it reported as: "crossriderapp435@crossrider.com" However, using search tools on my OS showed no results to a file named this, as a matter of fact it isn't present in either the Profile Directory, subfolders or other Mozilla folders in AppData or the install directory.

However, re-enabling this addon makes it show and seem to work fine, is there any way I can find out where exactly Firefox is reading this addon from?

I should also mention that neither Google nor Bing come out with any results when searching for this addon, it's developer, or it's variations, and there is no uninstaller available in the download page. No anti malware software has found any infections, and this is my last hope.

I'm having the same problem as well. The add-on isn't compatible with Firefox 5.0, so it's disabled, but I'd like to get rid of it, but there's no remove option. I think I have found where it resides: Computer>Local Disk C:>ProgramData>CodecCheck>firefox>chrome>content. Then there are two JScript Script files - crossrider, and crossriderapi. From here would you just delete these two files and restart Firefox, or is there something else to do. I don't know, so if someone could jump in at this point it would be a great help. Thanks.

Look for that extension in the \extensions\ folder in your Profile folder. A folder by that name should be there.

The user who posted this question here - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/848671 - has that extension listed in his More System Details.... but his support question isn't related to that extension. It just turned up in a Google search along with this thread. I searched for {crossriderapp435@crossrider.com } at Google.
Premiumplay Codec-C 0.72.10 false crossriderapp435@crossrider.com

I guess it is a multi-media codec of some sort.

It isn't in that folder, as mentioned in the original question:

"as a matter of fact it isn't present in either the Profile Directory, subfolders or other Mozilla folders in AppData or the install directory. "

As for the unrelated question, I am the same user. :P

...and with Firefox 3.6.13 in WinXP they're at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\CodecCheck\Firefox\chrome\content.
