when I click on bookmarks or any other tab, the dropdowns show up but when I try to point at one, they disappers.
All drop downs appear but disappear when I start down the list to select a choice. If I hover over a blank space I get a popup that show the name of the item, but if I move the pointer the popup disappears.
I just upgraded to V5.0 hoping that would help but it did not.

see https://support.mozilla.com/questions/850203 my suggestion of there was "Stay-Open Menu" which makes menus stand still longer, its actual purpose probably to allow you to click on multiple bookmarks.
In any case the problem was already marked as solved as soon when I saw my post, with the problem due to a theme or extension but seemed ambiguous as to the actual cause or if actually solved.
Problem solved.
It was the add-on "ForecastFox" thar caused the problem.
