I get this error message when opening browser, "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features."

Find you profile folder through about:support typed/pasted into the location bar, then click on "Open Containing Folder". That will bring you to your current profile,

  1. go up three directories to the "Mozilla" directory, then
  2. right-click on the "Firefox" directory to bring up properties.
  3. Click on the read-only box so that it is empty and untinted (hidden files should also be empty) and then click on "Apply".
  4. Accept message to "unset" read-only for folder, sub folders, and files.

That should fix any read-only problem with your profile(s) and profiles.ini file.

Read-only would get turned on if you restored files from read-only media such as CD-ROM. Use of XCOPY (on your system) invoked from the command window allows you to copy files without creating problems, as would using a USB drive.
