update reminders
Can you stop with the CONSTANT reminders to upgrade. I want to keep that option open but to remind me 5 times in 1 day is WAY over doing it. Please put a setting in our options that will limit how often I get those reminders. All you're doing now is turning me off to doing an upgrade!

Any particular reason that you are 10 security updates behind?
However many security updates I may behind on isn't material to the question. The question is how to stop the constant reminders from popping up. I get 5 or 6 reminders a day and that's probably why I haven't upgraded because of getting completely turned off by Firefox's constant reminders.
I upgraded last time, and lost half of my addons - I don't have many - and I needed them. In addition my university keeps telling me that I have an unsupported browser. To upgrade to this release I will lose even more of my addons... Give me a break I don't want to upgrade and lose function. The several releases have added function that I'd rather not have. I don't play with my computer I work. So how do I stop these annoying, frustrating reminders.
It seems from reading this thread that Mozilla no longer gives a damn about what their users think, not to mention how much they annoy them.
I went back to FF 3.6.28 after 4 and 5 blew my add-ons away. Major version updates more often than routine dot improvements used to come. Incompatible add-ons, changes to the interface, etc.
I think they lost their minds. Do they think there are no other browsers we can use, even free ones? I do not want to, nor will I be, pushed around like this.
Meanwhile, they ignore us when we try to tell them.
Who do they think they are, Microsoft?
Thank you for NOT being awesome, Mozilla!

No Mozilla employees have replied to this thread. If you'll note the description of this forum is, “The Official Community-Driven Support Web Site for Firefox”.
The thread hasn't received further attention likely because what was asked in the original post is not possible. You can either set Firefox to automatically update, ask you before updating, or never check for updates.
Add-on compatibility concerns are largely a thing of the past. Since Firefox 10, add-ons are compatible by default. The vast majority of add-ons that worked with Firefox 4.0 work with the latest version. Those add-ons that only work with Firefox 3.6 often have alternatives that provide equal or similar features.
Old versions of Firefox contain security vulnerabilities, which is why Mozilla makes every effort to migrate users to a version that is secure.
You could at least update to Firefox 3.6.28. That should not disable any extensions. If you do not want any update notices, you can disable app updates. I have set to false these settings in about:config:
- app.update.auto
- app.update.enabled
- app.update.silent (just in case)
