Normal windows can be deleted from the Recently Closed Windows list RCWL) by deleting all the tabs but a New Tab that has never retrieved anything. Then close the window, and the window also disappears from the RCWL.

Other windows, like an enlarged Ebay or Amazon picture, and a lot of desirable message boxes (not spam), and many other good things will NOT allow a second (empty) tab to be created. So now I have 60 windows in my RCWL, and have trouble finding the ones I wanted to save; and when it gets too great it will delete windows I really want to save, one by one, or all of them at once. I increased my sessionstore windows number to 250 while looking for a solution. It never got that high but one day FF deleted them anyhow.

Please help . Thank you.

This is a very interesting question both because I do not understand why you are doing what you are doing and feel that you would be better served bookmarking pages into folders.

I would never trust session files to stay around, bookmark things if you want to keep them permanently. I doubt even that much time would be spent by developers on what you are doing and expect to retain across other problems, though they are some developers (probably not those in charge of Firefox modules) that do something similar but not to the extent that your are doing with history, just with keeping 250 tabs in the window instead of bookmarking. I can't even keep app-tabs clean for 3 days in a row

But I never really looked at the History menu that much, except to restore the "Previous session" or one of the last windows or a specific tab within the current window -- not the latest tab though which would be "Ctrl+Shift+T".

I can't tell if you are always displaying the Tab bar or not, but if you are not, that might be contributing to minor problem involving "New Tab" ("(untitled)" was a more correct name).

The "Multiple Tab Handler" extension would help you eliminate tabs by selection with "Ctrl+click" to add/remove in tabs selection and/or "Shift+click" to extend selection and then delete through the tabs context (right-click) menu. The "Add Bookmark Here2: extension might help you bookmark all/selected tabs in combination with MTH.

To play with tabs, I would suggest installing the "Linky" extension and test along with the other two extension on either of the following pages.

Since it appears that you are trying to build some kind of research in the sessions manager, you might consider bookmarking all of the tabs (one layer of tabs) into the unsorted bookmarks and separate groups of bookmarks with a bookmark separator.

But most of these tabs I don't want to save permanently. I just haven't had time to read them, or process them in some other way.

> I doubt even that much time would be spent by developers on what you are doing

I think you're right, but they invented the RCWL, not me, and it used to work perfectly until version 4. I've had versions 5, 6, and 7 too and I still have the same problem.

> and expect to retain across other problems, though they are some developers (probably not those in charge of Firefox modules) that do something similar but not to the extent that your are doing with history, just with keeping 250 tabs in the window instead of bookmarking.

Sorry. I was unclear: I've never had anywhere near 250 tabs in one window, and I've never had anywhere near 250 windows I wanted to save. I've never had more than 5 windows I wanted to save, and I think I've never had more than 75 windows total in the RCWL.. But new windows arise when I'm not paying attention, and since there is no way to remove the tabless windows from the RCWL, the number of them in the list keeps growing. Before I knew it, it was 25, then 50, then 75. I made the max 250 to make sure I never got near the max. And I didn't but FF deleted ALL of the entries anyhow.

The default maximum number of entries is 3, so that's probably how many you have in your list. And two or three of them are probably these abnormal, accessory windows, for which Cntl-T won't make a second tab.

> But I never really looked at the History menu that much, except to restore the "Previous session" or one of the last windows or a specific tab within the current window -- not the latest tab though which would be "Ctrl+Shift+T".

Now we're talking about the Recently Closed Tabs list, not RCWindows. I've never had any problem with the RCTabs list.

> I can't tell if you are always displaying the Tab bar or not, but if you are not, that might be contributing to minor problem involving "New Tab" ("(untitled)" was a more correct name).

I keep the tabs bar open all the time, but these problem windows, like when I click on a picture to see an enlarged version of it, which appears in its own window, for example in Amazon, Ebay, or Radio Shack, or many message boxes, have no tabs bar. Now with what I've called normal windows, using Cntl-T creates a second tab, untiltled, as you point out, and the tabs bar appears. Then one can go back to the first tab, close it, then close the window, and the window does not appear in the RCWindows list. But in what I call abnormal windows, like the Amazon, Ebay, Radios shack enlarged image windows, cntl-T does not do anything. It must be because of my reference to Cntl-T that the topic turned to tabs. I didn't mean for that to happen.

> The "Multiple Tab Handler" extension would help you eliminate tabs ....

Thank you for the effort you put in to include the many lines I've snipped to save space, but they are also about tabs, and my issue is with Recently Closed Windows

> Extensions I use are described at http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#ext http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/infolister_listing_fx4.htm#extensions

I'm still looking at these, and they seem very useful in ot her regards, but I looked at every entry for "window" and "recently" or "recent" and didnt' find a solution to this problem.

Maybe I should put this back: > This is a very interesting question both because I do not understand why you are doing what you are doing and feel that you would be better served bookmarking pages into folders.

Two problems with that. Every time one opens a window from the RCWL, it removes its entry from that list, and after I use the window (probably deleting some tabs and maybe adding new ones) when I close the window, it makes a new entry. So there is only one entry for each window that has been closed, no matter how many times it was closed and opened. If the RCWL wouldn't save all those windows I don't want to save, the only entries in my RCWL would be windows I closed with the intention of reopening. Never more than 5. I close them because if I have too many tabs open, it uses up my RAM, and I even get warnings from from my AV program.

The second problem is that a window saved in the RCWL includes all the Back and Next entries for each tab. Sometimes these are important. Bookmarking all the tabs in a window only saves the URLS for the tabs that are showing at the moment.

Thanks a lot. I mean that sincerely, even though we haven't made much progress.
