Firefox 9.0.1 often stalls when the Bookmarks menu is accessed. The stall is for 30-60 secs. All FF interactivity is blocked. The computer's WiFi or LAN icon always shows activity for a few seconds at some point during the stall, that is, something is being received and/or sent. This happens even when all add-ons have been disabled. Computer's virus scan is clean, ditti SpyBot scan. Neither Chrome nor IE8 exhibits this behaviour. None of the fixes proposed for such behaviour have worked.

This is a major usability issue, it's reported by many users on many threads in many fora, and there's no acknowledgement from Mozilla.

Failing a solution, I have to move to Chrome.

Do you have any RSS feeds saved in your Bookmarks? Firefox does come with a RSS for http://www.bbc.co.uk .

That might be the "activity" you see, the loading of the daily headlines.

As far as that delay when opening your bookmarks the first time after bootup and opening Firefox, compacting the Places database should help.

So unfortunately not.

It's not just the first time after bootup.
