With updated Firefox, downloads no longer open automatically so I can decide whether to save them or not - why not?

I upgraded my OS to 10.6, and so upgraded Firefox too, but now downloads no longer open automatically so that I can decide whether to save them or not - why not? Preferences don't seem to allow it. The previous version opened downloads before saving, and so does Safari. So now I have to use Safari instead of Firefox.
