When receiving emails in German Umlaut prints incorrectly. How to fix.

more options

I frequently receive emails in the German language. The letters 'u' and 'a' are frequently modified by the use of an Umlaut (two dots), but these are not reproduced correctly. Instead, a series of letters and symbols appear, which are evidently a result of faulty decoding - probably at my end. Note that this has not always been the case. I may have changed something, but have no idea what it was. Help in this puzzling matter would be much appreciated!.

Hi ... thank you so much. I must have screwed it up myself in some way. I have re-installed UTF-8 and have just received a test email from Germany and everything works perfectly. Most grateful - I was quite baffled by this one. Hannibalatrome.

Make sure that you have Unicode (UTF-8) selected if you open such a file in Firefox or in another program.
