Can't find old Firefox setting from Windows XP after I upgraded to Windows 7. I used the Windows Easy Transfer function to save and restore files and settings.

I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and used the Windows program to save and restore files and settings. After I installed Windows 7 I re-installed Firefox but I can't find the old setting to restore the Firefox settings I had in Windows XP.

Hi,

If the windows.old directory is present, you can try to copy the Firefox Profile Folder inside this to the correct folder structure inside your Windows 7 user folder. Please see the link for the folder structures in XP and 7. After copying it (you have to run Firefox at least once), you can start the Profile Manager > Create Profile > Next > Choose Folder and point it to the copied folder.

Another way would be to just copy the needed files from the old profile into the new Windows 7 Firefox profile. Some of the important files could be places.sqlite which holds the bookmarks + history, key3.db + signons.sqlite both of which are needed to successfully copy saved web site usernames/passwords etc.

I installed Windows 7 on a new hard drive which is now Drive C. I have to old hard drive with Wndows XP and everything else as my second hard drive. So, I have access to all the old files. I can't find those files/line you are talking about on the old XP drive and I don't know which folder to put them in Windows 7. I have found the Firefox profile folder in both under User setting but I don't see those lines.

You can try to open the current profile folder from Firefox Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder and copy the needed files from inside the profile folder in the Windows XP folder. The windows.old folder. if present will be usually in the same directory of Windows 7 where the Users, Windows, Program Files folders reside.
