I'd like to manually sort my bookmark folders across the Bookmarks Toolbar.

I've tried clicking and dragging directly on the toolbar, from the side view, and from the Bookmarks library.

In each case, the folders seem to be locked into place, though it is possible to use the sort function.

Is there a command I'm missing? I'm using a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.5.8. Note: There is no right click mouse button on the laptop. Right-Clicking is preformed by pressing ctrl and clicking the mouse button on the laptop.

There are extensions that may add additional facilities, but the

  • tabs toolbar
the tabs may be dragged and dropped as required
  • bookmarks toolbar
the tabs take the order of the unsorted bookmarks library bookmarks toolbar folder
    • you need to look at the unsorted view, not any chosen sort by column
    • the unsorted order may itself be varied by dragging and dropping within the library. Any such change should be persistant, and should be reflected in the order seen on the screen toolbar.

If you are unable to make changes in the unsorted view either it is a firefox fault or it is some other software that is interfering.

  • are you able to move folders and bookmarks around within the bookmarks library ?
  • do those changes persist ?
  • If you have problems try using firefox in safe mode and with plugins disabled

Does Cut and Paste via the right-click context menu work, assuming that you can open the right-click context menu via Ctrl + left-click?
You should be able to do that in the right pane in the Library (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks).
