No more Java extension after getting Firefox 12
I noticed before I updated to Firefox 12, there used to be a Java console thing listed as an extension. After I updated Firefox, that extension stopped appearing. I've subsequently uninstalled Java 6 and installed Java 7. That extension is not there still.
Is this normal?
If it is relevant, I do not let Java save temporary internet files.

I have Java 6 (with latest updates) installed which have 3 components showing in my Firefox:
- Java QuickStarter 1.0 in the Extensions panel
- Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.310.5 6.0.310.5 in the Plugins panel
- Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31 6.0.310.5 in the Plugins panel
For detailed info on Java, see these articles:
I have the two plugins, I don't have quickstart enabled, so I do not have a quickstart extension.
Did you used to have a Console extension before Firefox 12?

The Java Console extension is no longer supported and the Java QuickStarter (JQS) is only available for Windows XP, although it is usually better to disable it there as well.

Ok, so it is good that I don't have it. The weird thing is, I had it until Firefox 12.
Instructions below are for 64 bit O/S, remove the 64 bit parts if yours is not.
Uninstall Java, both 64 and 32 bits.
Download and run JAVA RA http://singularlabs.com/software/javara/javara-download/. This should remove all traces of Java.
Uninstall Firefox
Install JRE 6 Update 32 for 64 bit - RUN 64 bit FIRST
Install JRE 6 Update 32 for 32 bit
Install Firefox

I have Java 7, I recently (i.e., about a week ago) uninstalled Java 6 and installed Java 7 over it. In Control Panel, I only have one Java installed.
Also, I have the Java plug-ins on my laptop, it is the Java console extension which is no longer there, one of the prior posts already noted that that no longer works anyways.

I am on Windows 7 64 bit, have Firefox 12.0, and Java 7.3 (64 bit) installed. Because there is no Java plugin, Webex can't be installed.
Also, the Java help page of: http://java.com/en/download/help/enable_browser.xml needs to be updated in regards to Firefox, but I have no idea how to contact the Java people.
hello hankn, regarding 32bit/64bit - you always have to install the same java version as your browser. since firefox is a 32-bit application, you'll need to download & run the 32-bit installer for windows from http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp in order for java to work in firefox.

Thanks. The problem arose when installing Webex. I tried to install it on IE9.0 on exactly the same platform and it worked fine. Is IE a 64 bit application?
ie is available as 32bit & 64bit version on a 64bit-operating system as far as i know. there should be two shortcuts in the start menu... http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ieinternals/a.../q-a-64-bit-internet-explorer.aspx
I checked with Webex support and the supported browsers are: For Windows: Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8 (32-bit/64-bit), 9 (32-bit/64-bit) Mozilla Firefox 3.x, 4.x, 5.x (32-bit) Chrome 11, 12, 13 They are working to get FF 12 working with Webex but there is no ETA yet.
