OS: Windows 7 From: IE9 Browser To: Firefox (ver. 14.0.1)

When I attempt to Import Favorites from IE9, only a few folders and URLs are imported (maybe 200 out of 1000) to Firefox bookmarks. Is there a limit on this procedure? Also, I have about 4 levels deep of folders in my Favorites. Could this be a problem?

I appreciate any suggestions.

Fixed! After I found the procedure below. It was easy and worked perfectly. (I couldn't understand the explanation I read yesterday by someone else.)

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks (the help link)

To export your IE Favorites to a file:

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Press the "Alt" key to show the IE menu toolbar, if the menu bar is hidden (File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help menu items).
  3. In the IE menu bar, go to "File -> Import and Export..."
Follow the prompts to export your IE favorites to a file, which will be named "bookmark.htm" by default.

4. After you've finished exporting your IE Favorites to a file, use the Mozilla Suite/SeaMonkey or Firefox Bookmarks Manager and import the file.

I had same problem and resolved it also by doing the export from IE then import to Firefox. But the other option of directly importing from IE did not get all the folders. This was with Firefox 16.

I have the same problem with Mozilla FireFox 18 beta 7! Apparently, the people who program FireFox don't listen to the feedback. But the above fix does work! I hope that the next beta (8) will fix this! Happy New Years to everyone (2013)! ! ! :)

I also have the issue listed above Windows 7 64 bit Pro I tried both of the above methods and neither one of them work. I get NO errors or other information to assist in resolving this issue. Did the developers actually try importing bookmarks. I reviewed the HTML file that was generated and i did not see nay problems with it. I'm using Firefox 18.0

Okay, I finally figured it out. First, go to IE9. Then go to File > Import and export... > Export to a file > Click on Next, then you'll get a box asking "What would you like to export?" choose what you want to export (Favorites Feeds or Cookies ). I checked off all of them. Click Next, then it will ask you "Where do you want to export your favorites?". Then choose where you want your favorites to be put. (I created a directory called IE9Export on my C:\ drive) Then you'll get the same thing for your Feeds and then your Cookies. Then click on Export, then when IE9 is done, click on Finish!

Now for the second part! Now, in Mozilla Firefox, go to your Bookmarks on the very top menu, and choose "Show all bookmarks". Now your Bookmarks will be in front of you. Then, go to Import and Backup menu, and choose Import Data from Another Browser... and the rest you should be able to do by yourself. I had to mess around with it until I figured it out, but once I did, I got all my Bookmarks back. Now I DO NOT have to use IE anymore! ! ! :D

BTW, let me know how you make out. Thanks

If you have problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.

If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.

  • Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):
    File > Import and Export
  • Import the HTML file in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":
