Firefox links Ads in Google Search to dead ends

more options

Problem with both, firefox 10 and 15, when clicking on a result in Google search which is an advertisement firefox takes me by internal google link ot a dead end, i.e. when I enter in Google search "Berlin" I receive as first reply the ad "Flüge London Berlin ..". Clicking that ad I am led to "https://www.google.de/search?q=Berlin&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:de:official&client=firefox-a" which actually leads nowhere. The regular answers like "Berlin - offizielles Stadtportal" or "Wikipedia" etc. do work without problem.

I guess it's just a problem of adjustments, but what and where?

Thank you all for you help.

Do you run any add-ons that block or modify advertising in any way?

(I'm not able to test this myself because google.de shows me no ads when I search for Berlin, perhaps due to my location in North America??)

Hi, yes I have the Updated Adblocker for Firefox 11+ 0.7.7 installed. Interesting is, that when I deactivated it after receiving your question, I also do not see any ads when searching for Berlin. But when I start other searches the problem remains the same, activated or deactivated. Regards Norbert

When I searched for various well-known companies, I got ads with normal links. Would you want to try with all extensions disabled? A standard diagnostic to bypass extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode (Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode) using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."

At this point, extensions are disabled but plugins still are enabled. Notice any difference?

To disable plugins as well, you can try here:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category

Any difference?
