Unable to find bookmarks in Acronis backup
My Dell XPS Win XP 6.5 yrs. old 32 bit died, I had luckily backed up the night before with Acronis. I cannot restore on my new Dell XPS 8500 because it is 64 bit as well as Win 7; a full restore would render it as XP. I am able to look inside the backup file, all 100 GB of it, but cannot find the bookmarks anywhere. I have tried all the resources but I think the bookmarks might be hidden. Any help, greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi nytrappistmonk,
I am sorry to hear about your computer dying, but I am happy to hear that you were able to back it up the night before. Talk about good timing! :)
If I understand correctly, you are trying to find out the exact folder that Firefox stored bookmarks in your old computer, so that you can restore the bookmarks and personal information. Is this correct?
Firefox stores the bookmarks and browsing history, along with passwords, autocomplete history, site preferences and many other information on what is called "Profiles".
The following help article goes into more detail about how you can find and recover your Profile: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data
In the future, it may be helpful for you to set up Firefox Sync, so that you never have to worry about losing your bookmarks again: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync
I hope that this information helps you. Good luck recovering your data, I hope that you are able to get everything back - please let us know how it goes.
In Windows XP you can find the profile folder in this location:
- C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
Thank you for replying so fast; there is no "Application Data" within my user profile under Documents and Settings. Could it be hidden and not showing up?
cor-el, thanks for chiming in with more info! :)
nytrappistmonk, you are correct. The folder "Application Data" in the Windows XP file system is usually hidden.
To be able to see the hidden files (I am assuming that you are browsing through Windows Explorer on your Windows 7 computer), you can follow these steps:
1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.
I hope that this helps you navigate through the hidden folders and recover your Firefox profile.
Thanks!
