I have installed & uninstalled firefox multiple times, but can't solve this problem: it seems that I've successfully installed firefox, but when I click on the firefox icon to open, nothing happens except my windows cursor pinwheel-thing appears and rotates for about 5 seconds, as if firefox is opening, but still nothing. firefox appears in my task manager at that point, but still no firefox window.

Hi!

I will suggest to start Firefox in Safe mode . If that works, then you could use Reset Firefox to fix any problem caused by a corrupted profile.

Pay attention the first article, to launch Firefox in Safe Mode when you are unable to even launch it on the first place use the "Shift" button while launching Firefox.

Let me know if it helps. Ibai

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

This happens sporadically. Today FF got real sluggish. When I closed it it would not reopen to a window, only the taskbar. I could right click that and get a micro window to open with no open tabs. Enlarging that and closing it repeated the same crud. Safe mode same. Luckily I had a back up profile. I copied that to my active location and bingo. I kept the "bad" profile. Is there any way to diagnose the problem in that profile? Meanwhile I'm now using: ROBOCOPY "(Primary)\FireFox" "(Backup)\FireFox" /E in a batch before opening FF when I know I have a good current Profile. Make sure you create an alternate Profile in Profile Manager for the backup. If it works just copy back.
