I am running Firefox 16.0.2 under Windows XP. Each time I open Firefox, I must click on View / Toolbars... to restore my Bookmarks Toolbar. Also, I have repeatedly customized my Toolbar, moving the "Home Page" icon and the "Refresh" icon to the left and adding a "Print" icon. Each time I open Firefox, however, these customizations are lost. I suspect that I may have also lost some cookies, as previously known passwords are no longer known for several web pages. Thanks for any suggestions or fixes. Ted Steele

Possibly you have a corrupted localstore.rdf file in the Firefox profile.

As far as lost cookies go, persistent cookies are not eternal. They do outdate. When they do, you may have to log in again to get new ones.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

Some security software has virtualization or sandbox features that may cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.

I use the free APG software, which I have been running on this same PC for years.

Hmmm... I did a search on my C-drive for "localstore.rdf" and found only two instances -- both of them in the Komposer files (the HTML editor that I use). The search did not find any such file in a Mozilla directory.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and later Windows 7+ versions are hidden folders.
