Google.com search bar does not load correctly

This isn't easy to describe (screenshot is below), but I'm going to do my best. For some time now loading google.com in Firefox causes search text field to collapse on itself to be about 1 character wide (if that much). I can still type in a search query and go from there, but suggested searches barely works, and "instant" results doesn't work at all. Not to mention, since the field is collapsed, I can't see what I'm typing until I manually click the search button and see it again above the results.

Every once in a while it loads like it should and I have don't have any issues, but this issue pops up more often than not. I'm not sure if it's an addon or plugin that's interfering with things, but searching to see if anyone else has had this problem hasn't turned up anything. The search toolbar (next to the URL bar) works fine and is not an issue here. Has anyone seen this before and can maybe offer some advice? Thanks!

Quick addendum: here is a screenshot of what I see when I begin to type "Mozilla".
