where do I get 64bit firefox builds? where do I get older firefox versions?
This is really frustrating.
After installing Iceweasel 20 from my distribution it no longer restores previous session on startup.
My distribution no longer carries firefox 18 which was the previous version. It carries a version of iceweasel 10 which does not have this problem.
Sure, the problem is not reproducible with fresh profile but I do not want a damn empty profile. I want my history.
And downloading 64bit version or older version of firefox from mozilla.com is near impossible. No links are provided. You can at best try random URLs in the hope you find one that leads somewhere.

You can only get 64 bit Linux versions from the FTP server.
The regular download page only offers 32 bit versions, but those version will run on 64 bit Linux provided you have 32 bit versions of all libraries and plugins.

There is no known future version of Firefox that will have a Win64 build for release.
The Win64 test builds are only on the unstable Nightly development channel and have yet to be also on Aurora, Beta or Release channel. Every time a new Release comes the versions moves/merges to next channel and Nightly gets a new version.
These Nightly builds are meant more for testers and devs as they get checkins pretty much everyday and therefore a update each day as a result. Also the Win64 Nightlies are supported even less now as they have since been downgraded to Tier-3 platform more recently while the officially supported Win32, Mac OSX 32/64-bit and Linux 2/64-bit builds are Tier-1 platform. The Win64 nightlies are still more for the purpose of catching regressions/breakages as it is possible to break Win64 builds without affecting any of the officially supported builds.
And where *are* those supported Linux 64 bit builds?
And older releases?
The download page offers just "Linux"

Thanks for your answer.
No, 32bit version will not work due to limited address space.
And the damn download page does not neither 64 bit version of anything nor any older release not a link to the ftp archive which is quite lame.
- I know there has been an issue with session restore, but have not really figured out what it affects. IIRC one such problem was recently fixed for Mac s but possibly not for Windows. It does make me wonder if there is a yet to be reported Linux problem.
- do make sure you close Firefox/iceweasel sessions using the Firefox menu, and not by just closing down the window or killing the process.
- I regularly run an Ubuntu distro 64 bit Firefox (Aurora channel) and have not personally noticed any session restore problems.
- less often I run Mozilla Firefox builds but again have not noticed any restore problems.
- I know it is not the question you asked but maybe the problem relates to your profile

Consider copying your current place.sqlite into your new & working profile. That should give you a working profiles complete with Bookmarks and History
The ftp is not readily linked to on mozilla.org because older versions are not supported and potentially insecure.
When the current version does not work the answer "older versions are not supported and potentially insecure" is not what I am looking for. Also the lack of 64bit version is not explained by this.
"Consider copying your current place.sqlite into your new & working profile. That should give you a working profiles complete with Bookmarks and History" - yeah, awesome. And the half dozen extensions required to make Firefox usable, including settings. And the session which iceweasel 20 does not restore. It does not really matter how you close - quit, crash - all the same. Also why would closing the window do something else than quitting?
There are 64-bit Linux releases of Firefox as cor-el linked to (existed ever since Fx 4.0), just that Mozilla does not link to them as easily as they do with the 32-bit builds. Perhaps because many who use 64-bit builds will use the ones provided by their Linux distribution instead anyways.
hramrach,
I wIll repeat my earlier observation. You said
Sure, the problem is not reproducible with fresh profile
That suggests that something in your profile may be causing your problem. Maybe by looking at the profile and gradually adding components back you will discover the cause.

It can make a difference especially with multiple windows and session restore.

in Firefox 20.0.1 the session was restored all right and after opening the profile in Firefoc 20.0.1 the session is restored correctly in Icewesel 20.0 as well.
Bugs like this happen, of course, because there is no specification of the profile format and interpretation of the profile is necessarile 'best-effort' then.
Glad to hear it sounds like it is working ok again then.
You do now know where the 64bit builds are if you need them at any future date.
