i am having this problem for quite some time now. I had to format my laptop so i took the backup of my mozilla account using MozBackup and then restored the account using the file it generated. The problem is that now i have all my add-ons, bookmarks , passwords, extensions and themes restored, but certain malwares have been added to this account of FF recently such as ask toolbar, websearch search engine. and i cant see my addons anywhere on this account, they are kind of hidden, they are working somewhere in the background but cant see them. i searched how to remove the ask toolbars and all, and they suggested to remove it via addons first. now how can i remove them from there if i cant even see them. please help.

Hello vjdjsingh,

type " about:plugins " on your firefox URL box, then you can see your installed plugins there, Select your desired one and delete.

If the above trick is not working, don't worry, just got to your control panel, and select uninstall program, there you can see the installed toolbar like Ask,etc. Now you can uninstall the program you want...

regards,

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar ("Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.

You can check for problems with preferences and rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.
