do I need to disable all add-ons in IE 8 of mozilla is my default browser?

more options

I have two browsers on my pc. Firefox and I.E 8. Firefox is my default. I am having an extremely sloooow time booting up the pc. I am wondering if the add-ons I had installed on I.E8 or anything with I.E 8 needs to be deleted, disabled etc. Or if Firefox is my default, does it override all of I.E 8? This started happening after I switched browsers. Help please, anyone?

Is your browser slow to load, or turning your computer on and logging in, you dont have many addons and it shouldnt cause Firefox any issues.

You could try a startup cleaning program like StartUp lite by the same makers of the Anti-Malware utility.

or do it manually if you know what you are doing...

No it really did nothing at all, but I am not sure the program was downloaded and exe properly. This is what I was told to do: "Simply download StartUpLite from the link to the right and save it to a convenient location. Double click StartUpLite exe. Select all options you would like executed and select continue." Well I downloaded it and selected where it should go/ The program did say it was fully downloaded, but it only took about 2 seconds. Then there was nowhere to select any options as stated above. I click the exe, and again it took about 2 seconds to tell me there was nothing wrong with the startup of my pc. That is why I am doubtful that the program wasn't installed correctly, but I did about 3times with the same message everytime. My PC still takes forever to startup. any other suggestions?

Do you have Windows Defender?

You can open it then go to tools, there should be a startup manager in WIndows Defender. Make sure you keep core services in startup.

I no longer have windows defender. I used it for awhile, but it didn't seem to make any big difference. Now that I use Mozilla-Firefox as my browser again why have another Windows product. I believe they are designed to work with Windows, but correct me if I am wrong. Firefox, for me, is by far the better browser, much easier to use than windows. and many easier ways to backtrack, to where was etc.. I really can't imagine going back to windows, I have IE8.I cannot upgrade that any further due to my OS of XP. Maybe the new versions are easier.I still keep IE8 on my PC because there is some software than won't work on Firefox. Two browsers, I believe is what has slowed my pc down. I have disabled as many add-ons as I dare, but this is new to me, I am certainly not an ace of any of this, so anyone that can shed new light, I will appreciate it. I also appreciate your comments to date.

you can also use this method, having 2 browsers installed shouldnt make your computer slow.

this is another comment to my just posted reply, above. Back to StartUpLite, do you have any suggestions as to why is seemed to load on my PC, but failed to give the 'options' that you mentioned.

look above, there is another suggestion, dont remove any essential programs from startup, it may cause your computer to not work correctly.

Hi, thank you so much for your time and answers. The last link you send for me to try, might be the winner, the problem is I do not recognize most of these and as stated, they may be essential programs that will cause many more problems if I delete them. How can I tell what they are? Use a dupt browser screen and google each one in,one at a time to see what they do? What browser am I in when I do this,?or does it not matter (I would think it should, unless they are only for the pc, not the browser) Thanks again

Can you provide a screenshot of msconfig > startup tab?

MSCONFIG is a Windows system utility; it doesn't run in any browser. You may be able to guess what many of the programs do. The items displayed on the Startup tab in msconfig should list the publisher (e.g., Adobe, Apple, Microsoft) as well as the location on disk of the file (which sometimes will indicate the name of the program). Probably the most mysterious ones will be related to hardware or programs that you only use rarely. Here you can prevent them from running at startup, but they won't be deleted, and you can run MSCONFIG again and turn them back on if something stops working, such as a DVD burner.
